About
About The Ballast Principle
This site began as the companion to The Ballast Principle, a book by Peter Bryce about using anxiety instead of fighting it. It has grown into a free toolkit: self-checks built on validated instruments, calculators for sleep and caffeine, guided breathing and grounding practices, and steady background sounds — all built around the book's core idea that the right weight, carried well, is what keeps you steady.
The site is built and maintained by Cosys Labs, a small digital products studio. We build focused, fast, privacy-respecting web tools.
Privacy is structural, not a promise
Every tool on this site runs entirely in your browser. Your answers to any self-check, your tool history, and your dashboard live in your device's local storage — we have no server that could receive them. That isn't a policy we adopted; it's how the site is physically built. See the privacy policy for the details.
What these tools are — and aren't
Everything here is for self-reflection and education. The self-checks use well-studied screening instruments, but a screening is not a diagnosis, and no tool on this site treats, diagnoses, or replaces professional care. The disclaimer and the crisis lines in the footer are on every page for a reason.
